Vocational Training

Vocational training occurs while engaging food rescue recipients and customers seeking handmade gifts. Our team supports our community in these activities,
ensuring they learn the ropes, adapt to their environment, and grow professionally. We take pride in connecting our community with potential employers to ensure they are work-ready. Our focus is not only on supporting individuals with disabilities but also on educating and empowering local organizations and businesses on employment opportunities. By creating a culture of inclusiveness, we can overcome the lack of knowledge that often prevents employers from hiring people with disabilities. We strive to empower our team by building their self-esteem and mindset, encouraging leadership and self-direction with support from their peers. We offer opportunities for involvement in national and international conferences, steering groups, and new initiatives like the Community Resource Recovery Facility in Katikati.

Leadership aspirations that we strive to achieve with our community:

1. Understand the role of leadership at all levels of the organization, starting with self.
2. Demonstrate interpersonal and leadership skills as peer mentors.
3. Learn the importance of good communication as a foundation for effective leadership.
4. Grow self-awareness and in articulating functional limitations about access barriers.
5. Learn techniques for improved time management and prioritization.
6. Understand the principles of teamwork, agreement, and follow-through.
7. Be able to exhibit civic and community responsibility.

Learning outcomes that we strive towards:

1. Self-assertive - Ability to make independent decisions.
2. Leadership - Ability to encourage others and lead by example
3. Work readiness - Confidence in themselves and their work environment
4. Communication & Social skills – Confidence with immersing in their community
